DO SOME GOOD!

CLIO ISN’T BREATHING. ROBERTO SAVES HER, THEN KEEPS LOOKING FOR HER

She was having dinner with her partner and her son. When he sees Clio in difficulty, Roberto Picciotto gets up and helps her. The bill paid by Mom, the hug in the police station and a meeting that leaves the mark.

Ambulance in Florence. Contextual photograph: it does not show Roberto Picciotto, Clio or the rescue.

Roberto is at the table with his partner and his son. A little further, Clio cannot breathe. Try to get off the bench. Mom tries to help her. He understands that there is an emergency: he gets up, reaches the little girl and intervenes. Dinner can wait.

His name is Roberto Picciotto, he is an assistant of the Mobile Team of Florence and that evening he is out of service. In the Pub de Limite on the Arno, where he is with the family, he puts into practice what he learned during the first aid training of the police. After some attempts he manages to expel the bite that obstructs the respiratory tract. Clio returns to breathe.

From his table to that of Clio

Roberto himself told those moments, in the interview published on October 23. She saw the girl in trouble and her mother next to her. He arrived at the table and used the techniques of disconstruction learned in the courses. The first attempts were not enough; it continued until it was released from the fragment of food.

The security cameras at the club recorded the rescue. But for Roberto, while it was happening, those few seconds seemed much longer. Afterwards, Mom accompanied Clio to the hospital for the investigation. He came back to sit down. He reminded his son to eat calmly: these are moments that, he says, marked him.

And that account was already paid.

When he goes to the register, Roberto discovers another detail: his mother of Clio has already paid for his dinner. After the thanks, that gesture. A concrete way to say thanks to the man who had risen from the next table.

It's one of the most beautiful details in history. The fear and relief remain enormous; inside, however, there is also this little attention. Two families entered the same place to dine find themselves tied by a rescue and a thank you.

In the police station, this time you smile

Roberto wants to know how he is Clio. In the following days, he was interested in her condition and invited her to the police station. Here come you, Mom Marta and the twin sister Violante. They are also welcomed by the officers of the Steering Wheels and the police dogs.

This time they can talk calmly. They tell their passions, he talks about family and work. They hug. After meeting during an emergency, they can finally get to know each other even this way.

And the report continues: Roberto says he has remained in contact with the family. He'd like to introduce the girls to his son, maybe play them together. It is a wish that he tells in the interview, another meeting still to be organized.

The emotion comes with regard to the video

Roberto explains that only after seeing the footage, he became fully aware of the danger that the little girl had. "When I saw the film I was excited," he says. The emotion belongs to him as much as the readiness with which he intervened.

In this story there is also a preparation that counts: the life-saving maneuvers had been learned during professional meetings promoted by the police. That knowledge has found a decisive job out of work, just a few steps from his family.

We also have the second meeting. Clio and Roberto close to a smiling steering wheel. And the possibility, born of an evening of fear, to meet one day with the children who play together. That's a good way to go with this.
