YOUR KITCHEN CAN BREATHE. AND YOU CAN FIND THE TEASPOON!
A clear worktop, everything in its place. A small tidy-up beginning with what you actually do each day.

To make coffee you move a bag, an unused appliance and three jars bought to organise things. Perhaps you need a decision before another container. Start with one surface.
Choose a corner
The table or worktop beside the sink. Remove everything and divide it into daily use, occasional use and undecided. Put undecided items in a box you already have and set a review date. Ask before throwing away other people’s documents or belongings!
Now repeat your routines: make coffee, chop vegetables, set the table. Where do you look for the cup and teaspoon? Keep frequently used things close, considering children, pets and access needs.
Buy the basket afterwards
Measure the drawer, count the objects and check existing dividers. If reaching a daily item means removing four boxes, the system demands too much effort.
When transferring food, retain useful packaging information, including labels and expiry dates. Never put medicines or cleaning products in food containers: recognisable bottles prevent dangerous confusion.
Cleaning has rules, too
Italy’s National Institute of Health warns never to mix cleaning products, especially bleach with ammonia or acids such as vinegar. Follow labels. Fragrances, candles and cleaners can contribute to indoor air pollution: a pleasant smell does not prove a surface is clean.
After a week, try the coffee test: can you find everything without moving anything? Does everyone know where things go? Adjust positions if needed. Your home should support its residents, even without looking like a catalogue photograph.
