Mare Fuori’s Filippo opened and closed the Venice Film Festival: a hosting debut enough to make anyone’s knees shake.

Nicolas Maupas, who plays Filippo in Mare Fuori, was chosen alongside actress and director Greta Scarano to host the opening and closing nights of the 83rd Venice Film Festival, held from 2 to 12 September 2026.
“I speak to my mum twice a day”
When the announcement came in July, Nicolas could hardly believe it. He described the adrenaline, waking several times at night and calling his mum twice a day. Even on the red carpet, some familiar comforts come with you.
