APRÈS-SKI? I’M STARTING WITH MY MAKEUP BAG!
NARS brings alpine glamour to its holiday collection. Our practical question: how can eyes, cheeks and light work together without complicating the evening?

Dinner, a birthday or an aperitif arranged in the group chat: the plan is ready. You open your makeup bag and discover plenty of eyeshadows, but no starting idea. NARS’ après-ski inspiration brings rosy cheeks and cool reflections—an invitation to picture a luminous evening without buying skis. Let us turn that inspiration into a practical mirror session.
What is in the palette?
The Après Ski Cheek & Eye Palette contains four eyeshadows, a blush and a highlighter in blue packaging inspired by ski jackets. October’s Italian listing priced it at €69. The €49 Light Reflecting Prismatic Powder is sold separately: useful to know before imagining it all in one box!
Choose who speaks first
Start by deciding what you want to notice first on your face: defined eyes, cheeks or a small reflection. There is no rule against letting everything shine. Choosing a starting point simply helps you build the look without adding products because they happen to be on the table. Place what you intend to use beside the mirror and leave the rest in the bag for now.
Version one: a little light
For a gentle experiment, choose a familiar eyeshadow and apply a small amount to the lid, following its directions. Check it with your eye open, not only closed. Add mascara if you enjoy it, then pause. A highlight can occupy a small part of the cheekbone rather than the whole cheek. Look from a normal conversational distance, instead of examining every millimetre in a magnifying mirror.
Version two: more definition
For stronger eyes, add a dark shade near the upper lashes and blend. Look with your eyes open before extending it. Sometimes that little contrast is enough to change the whole look.
Let the blush join in
Look at your cheeks now. Choose a colour that accompanies the overall look, apply a little and add more only if you want to. If the edge seems too distinct, soften it with a clean brush. Step back and look at your whole face rather than only the palette mirror. You might want a fresh, strong or almost invisible effect. The right amount is the one you enjoy on your face that day.
Powder and highlighter have different jobs
Start with the effect you want: soften a shiny area, or add a little glow? The first calls for setting powder; the second for highlighter. Begin with a small amount and watch as you turn your face: that is when the light comes to life.
Check it in another light
When you think you are finished, move to another part of the room. Approach a window in daylight or look under a light different from the mirror’s. You are checking whether you still like the whole effect, not hunting for faults. If you take a photograph, try it without filters and without turning it into a test. A screen can help with comparison; the evening will not take place entirely inside a camera.
Make the evening bag yours
If you want a touch-up, choose a few familiar products that fit comfortably in your bag. Check the lids are closed and the little mirror is clean. Makeup you enjoy wearing should not require checking every ten minutes. Prepare a practical solution, then give your attention to the conversation, dinner and the person in front of you. Your makeup bag helped you get ready; it does not have to become the evening’s compulsory main character. Deciding to carry nothing for touch-ups can also be exactly right for you.
Before the basket, open your drawer
Count how many palette shades you would genuinely use and compare them with what you own. If you want one eyeshadow, a whole palette may not meet that need. If you enjoy coordinated looks, study the photographs, directions and product sizes. The official product videos show colours and presentation; promotional pictures cannot replace your own experience. The enjoyable part remains yours: choose an idea, try it and go out with a face that feels like you.
