HOW WOULD THIS EYESHADOW LOOK ON ME? NOW WE CAN ASK THE CHAT!

Maybelline announces Virtual Try-On in ChatGPT: understanding a simulation and why access for Italian accounts still needs confirmation.

You have spotted a lovely eyeshadow, but what would it look like on your face? First you search for one photograph, then another, then open your phone’s mirror. Choosing a colour online can become a little merry-go-round. Maybelline proposes moving part of that journey into a conversation: asking for advice, looking at a simulation and finding the product. A digital fitting room, then, worth exploring without confusing it with your mirror at home.

On 29 October 2026, the brand announced its Makeup Virtual Try-On launch in ChatGPT, following the pilot presented at VivaTech in June. The experience combines cosmetic recommendations, virtual testing through a camera or photograph and retailer discovery, using L’Oréal’s ModiFace technology. This is the brand’s commercial service: recommendations concern its offering, rather than an independent selection of everything available in beauty shops.

The question is more interesting than the button

The appealing idea is starting with what we want to achieve. Not just a product name, but a situation: a working day, a casual invitation or the wish to explore another colour. Even without a digital tool, phrasing the request helps. “I’d like an easy-to-blend brown eyeshadow” says something more useful than “make me perfect”.

Add your preferences: luminous or matte, subtle or noticeable, a familiar texture or one you want to discover. Avoid turning your face into a list of faults to fix. Make-up can be a way of expressing yourself, and a question can begin with what you like. Understanding your goal helps you assess whether the answer you receive is relevant.

What the official demo shows

Maybelline’s video moves from a lipstick question to trying eyeshadow and finding retailers. It is the journey the brand imagines for exploring a colour before buying: from curiosity to a virtual try-on.

The official page includes the video and frequently asked questions. Before using the service, read what it communicates about images and requested permissions, alongside your account’s conditions. Being able to upload a photograph does not mean you have to share any image available. Choose consciously what you want to use, without feeling obliged to do so simply out of curiosity.

And in Italy? That still needs confirmation

The launch starts from Maybelline’s US site. Access may vary for readers in Italy. If the feature does not appear, the demo can still help you explore colours that catch your interest.

If the experience is not accessible in your account, you do not need to interpret it as a personal mistake or chase instructions found in random comments. Consult the official page and continue choosing products through your usual channels. A technology announcement can be interesting even when local distribution still requires confirmation. Explaining that limit is part of reporting, not a detail to hide.

A simulated colour is not yet a skin test

A virtual try-on helps you picture a colour on your face. Texture comes when you apply the product, and lighting can change the effect. Treat it as a first experiment: do I like this pink? What about a darker shade?

Use it as an initial idea. “This colour family interests me” is a different conclusion from “this product will definitely look exactly like that on me”. Before buying, check the name and shade, description, quantity and sales conditions. Where an appropriate direct trial is available, compare the digital impression with the real one. It is not a competition between tools: each provides different information.

Brand advice comes with context

Here you are exploring Maybelline’s range. If you like a colour, save the shade name and take time to think. Part of the fun is changing your mind without adding something to a basket straight away.

Before the basket, return to your original question. Was that the result you wanted? Do you already have something similar? Would you really use it? You can save the name and decide later. An interface that makes choosing quick does not have to determine your pace. Time to think remains yours, even when a retailer’s page is only a few steps away.

The most useful trial starts with you

Playing with a new idea does not require changing all your make-up. Start with one element: a shade on the eyelid, another finish, a colour alongside one you already use. See whether you like it and let the rest follow your habits. Enjoyment does not necessarily increase with the number of products applied, photographs compared or recommendations gathered.

The chat can suggest, the video can demonstrate and the photograph can spark curiosity. Then there is you: your lighting, your day and your way of looking at yourself. That is where a possibility becomes a choice. The digital fitting room adds a tool; the pleasure of saying “today I feel like this colour” still belongs to the person in front of the mirror.
