BOTTEGA VENETA? THIS TIME IT GOES ON AN ENVELOPE! LUXURY IN A POSTAGE STAMP
Sixty years of history in a small green rectangle: a new Italian stamp invites us to look closely at fashion. It might even be the reason to write the letter we have been putting off.

Some fashion objects are admired from a distance, behind a shop window. This one can go on an envelope. It is small, bears a famous name and has a story that began before our wish lists: an Italian stamp celebrates Bottega Veneta's sixtieth anniversary. For once, the next step to imagine is choosing whom to write to.
Issued on 22 October 2026, the stamp belongs to the series celebrating Italian manufacturing and Made in Italy. Poste Italiane lists the individual stamp at €1.30. A tiny object with sixty years of history to tell.
Dark green, a crest and two words
The house presents its historic crest and the Latin motto Labor et Ingenium. The idea of work and ingenuity, held in a few words, offers an interesting starting point for talking about fashion. A familiar brand name can also prompt questions about the skills and gestures behind the objects we recognise.
A stamp celebrates an anniversary. It does not automatically tell us the whole supply chain behind a product or replace information about its materials and production. It does offer a tiny space where an industrial and creative story can meet people who do not follow fashion shows.
That is part of its charm: a fashion house enters the everyday ritual of sending post. The stamp might reach a handbag enthusiast, a collector or someone who will simply be happy to hear from you. Each can find a different reason to look at it.
Look before putting it away
If you buy one to keep, take a moment to study it. Read the lettering, notice the relationship between the drawing and the space around it, and look at how green frames the details. We are used to enlarging everything with two fingers on a screen. Here, try the opposite and give your attention to something that stays small.
You can also compare the image on the house's official website with the philatelic product, keeping the stamp distinct from a postcard, special envelope or complete presentation folder. Bottega Veneta also describes related philatelic items accompanying the issue. Before buying, check exactly what the selected product includes.
Being a beginner does not mean purchasing the whole range. A single issue may be enough to discover whether this way of collecting pictures and stories interests you. Nor does being a collectible promise a future profit. Choose it because it appeals to you, with a budget decided beforehand.
More small portraits of Made in Italy
Poste's account of recent issues also includes Laura Biagiotti and Acqua di Parma. The images offer three different points of entry: a house's emblem, cashmere and perfumery. Looking at them together could become a small game: which detail helps you recognise a world before you read its name?
There is no need to turn it into an experts' quiz. Use it to start a conversation with someone who loves fashion, or with someone who still remembers letters received when she was young. A stamp can bring different interests and generations together precisely because everyone need not look at it in the same way.
What if we actually used it?
Want to put it on a real letter? Ask Poste about the postage for your envelope and look for the stamp at a philatelic counter or online. Then comes the lovely part: choosing whom to write to.
Once you have chosen the envelope, the lovely part begins. You do not need a perfect letter. Three specific details can bring it to life: something you saw that reminded you of the person, a thank-you you want to express properly, and a suggestion for meeting again. If a blank page feels intimidating, begin with the sentence you would use on walking into the kitchen to talk to them.
Plain paper is fine too. Write the date, leave a little space and reread only to check that you have said what you meant. A small mistake does not spoil the pleasure of holding a familiar voice in your hands. If you would rather keep this stamp in your collection, you can still send the letter using the appropriate postage.
A small thing, thoughtfully chosen
The anniversary story has taken us from luxury fashion to the kitchen table. It is a lovely journey: notice a familiar symbol, discover a date, pause over the meaning of work and then think of someone.
Perhaps that is how we can tell a fashion story today. Through a tiny object and an envelope waiting for an address. The dark green will look handsome; the words inside will be the part only you could choose. Even if the letter is short, that choice gives it a place in someone else's day that no shop window could decide for you.
