Zverev stopped in Shanghai as Davidovich Fokina turns the semi-final around
The German takes the opening set, but the Spaniard fights back to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 and reach his second Masters 1000 final.

Alexander Zverev took the opening set. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina made the semi-final his own.
On Saturday 17 October, the Spaniard knocked out Shanghai’s top seed, recovering from a set down. The final score was 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, earning him a place in his second Masters 1000 final after Monte Carlo in 2022.
The shot that sparks the comeback
At the end of the second set, Davidovich Fokina produces a running backhand passing shot to seal the set and level the match.
In the third, he capitalises on a Zverev double fault to secure an early break. He holds his advantage from there, backed by aggressive tennis and effective serving.
It is also the Spaniard’s ninth consecutive victory in China, following his title in Chengdu. That run adds substance to his Shanghai breakthrough.
