LOOK UP: EVERY OBSERVATION COUNTS!

10 October 2026 was World Migratory Bird Day—and we can take part. Curiosity and method make a team!

A bird crosses the sky. Could you identify its species? 10 October was the second principal date of World Migratory Bird Day 2026. Supported by international conventions protecting migratory species, the campaign values citizens’ observations in protecting these travellers.

A photograph is only a beginning

Scientific projects ask you to identify species and record place, date and observation method according to a specific protocol. Following instructions turns an observation into useful evidence about populations, routes and risks.

Give birds space

Start with official materials and local initiatives. Do not approach nests for photographs, disturb animals or enter restricted areas. Avoid sharing sensitive locations: protecting them sometimes means keeping their whereabouts private.
