The scene is Battersea, the former power station on the River Thames. Skye Newman, a 22-year-old singer from south London, performs “Crawling” during a rehearsal before the evening concert. King Charles and Elton John are listening, alongside David Furnish and Tim Cook.

What are the Creative Labs?

Apple and The King's Trust are launching a free programme for young people aged 18 to 30. The first group will include up to 20 participants, with practical opportunities to develop creative skills through Apple experts and the Trust's network.

The workshops focus on music production, digital technology and skills useful for working in the creative industries. There's more to a song, video or show than the performer behind the microphone: many other careers are worth discovering.

The King's Trust was founded in 1976 by the then Prince Charles. Fifty years later, it still supports young people moving towards education, employment and entrepreneurship. Its partnership with Apple offers another entry point for those who want to create but need tools and guidance.

Why we like this story

Telling a young woman to “follow her passion” is easy. Helping her learn, meet people and understand the world of work takes more. Workshops and mentors can make a real difference when money, connections or an initial opportunity are missing.

Music producers, sound engineers, photographers, graphic designers and video editors: creativity takes many forms, and not all of them put you centre stage. Sometimes the first step is discovering that your talent also has a career attached to it.

How to follow the project

The programme is based in the United Kingdom. Follow official updates from The King's Trust and Apple for eligibility, future groups and how to take part.
