Today I move for myself: fitness gives space to how you feel
For once, to the question "Why do you train?" the answer can be simply: "To dedicate a moment" . Mental well-being enters the fitness story. It's an interesting occasion, if we don't also turn being well into another performance to perform.

The bag is ready, but the day has been long. One part of you would like to go out, another looks for silence and couch. In the middle the usual motivational content appears: \ Just want it \ . Well, maybe we'll start by taking out that little bit. Organizing the movement takes time, concrete possibilities, energies and sometimes support. Not a phrase yelled on the phone.
Moving for how you feel
In the ACSM fitness trends for 2026, mental health exercise is in sixth place, rising by two positions compared to the previous year. The ranking is based on a survey of professionals in the sector: it describes priorities and guidelines, it is not a classification of therapies and does not measure how much a single person should train.
The interesting news is the place given to how it feels. For CHIARA! it is an opportunity to talk about movement with broader words: pleasure, curiosity, relationship, personal time. Not every exit must have a number as its protagonist.
What we know about the link between movement and well-being
The World Health Organisation recognises the physical and mental benefits of regular activity, including the reduction of anxiety and depression symptoms and the improvement of general well-being. This definition also includes active movements and daily movement, not just organized sport.
This does not mean that a walk should make you feel better immediately or that the exercise will solve any difficulties. The NHS presents movement as a useful possibility even in depression and recalls that there are several treatments. If the malaise persists, talking to a professional is part of the cure, not the sign of having tried little to train.
The question to change: what would I like to do?
If you can choose, start with the experience that intrigues you. Do you like to have music and people around? Looking for an outdoor exit? Do you prefer quiet instructions? Relax repeating a known activity or amusing yourself to learn a new one? You don't have to answer like your sporty friend would.
The NHS stresses the importance of finding a pleasant and practicable exercise on a regular basis. It can be a group activity, a walk or more movement in the usual movements. If you resume after a break, please proceed gradually.
The minimum plan can be concrete
Instead of promising a new life from Monday, choose a real chance: take a ride near home, try an introductory lesson, dance a song you like. It's an organizational example, not a therapeutic dose. The aim is to avoid the need to fix schedules, subscriptions, wardrobes and identities at the same time to start.
Prepare the context: decide when, where and with whom, if you want company. Leaves an alternative for unforeseen events. A sudden rain can move the exit, a commitment can shorten it. Not everything that changes with respect to the plan is a failure.
Well-being is not required to be photogenic. Even a selfie-free ride can be time dedicated to you.
Alone or someone?
A loved one can make the appointment more enjoyable; at other times you may want your own space. The Higher Institute of Health also recalls the social dimension of physical activity, which can take place in company. This does not imply that just enroll in a course to solve loneliness.
If you choose a group, look for an environment in which you can participate without comments on the body or insistent comparisons. You can ask for the level of the lesson and the tone in which it is proposed. Cheerful music doesn't make up for a teacher who makes you uncomfortable.
If an app helps you, fine. If it puts pressure on you, re-evaluate it.
For some people recording activities is fun. For other notifications, consecutive series and comparisons become intrusive. You can choose what to see and what to share, check your settings or take a break. It is not necessary to deliver every free moment to a dashboard.
A diary can also be made of words: "I liked that course" "I liked that course" , "The timetable was too uncomfortable" , "I would like to go with someone" . These are useful observations to understand your preferences. You don't need to grade your mood before and after each exit.
When the movement stops being a pleasant space
It may be helpful to talk to a professional if the activity becomes a distressing obligation, if you feel you have to use it to compensate for what you eat or if you continue despite pain and need for rest. You don't need to solve the boundary between pleasure and pressure on your own.
Even rest deserves space. A day without training does not require punishment the next day. If you are facing a mental health problem, the activity must be included in your path with the people following you: do not change treatments or therapies based on a trend.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to do intense workouts to get benefits?
The movement includes different activities. The choice must be appropriate to your conditions and sustainable: it is not all measured by visible fatigue.
What if I don't feel better after that?
You're not wrong. Experiences vary and well-being is not a switch. If the discomfort lasts or interferes with your life, ask for support.
Can the walk replace a therapy?
No: the movement may have a role in well-being and treatment paths, but it does not allow to suspend treatment.
Today you could go out, dance, try a lesson or rest. The part to keep is the attention to you: a carefully chosen activity can become a space in the day, without asking you to be always happy.
