HANDS THAT SPEAK, CONNECTIONS THAT CHANGE LIVES! 💗
European Deafblind Day on 22 October invited us to discover another way to connect. Lega del Filo d’Oro’s campaign continues to bring support closer to deafblind people and their families.

We use our hands to write a message, look for a key or wave across the street. For some people, hands also become a way to meet: to communicate, explore and recognise. On European Deafblind Day, 22 October, Lega del Filo d’Oro invited us to notice this. The campaign continues where contact becomes connection.
A story to build together
The foundation presented its campaign, Una storia di mani — A Story of Hands — for the occasion. Its aim is practical: strengthen services, open local centres in regions not yet reached and support existing ones. Behind those plans are people who need assistance and families seeking help nearer home.
For deafblind people, hands can be fundamental to discovering the world and connecting with others. Through touch, practitioners develop approaches that support communication and independence. This work takes expertise and continuity, respecting each person’s needs.
Closer on the map too
Lega del Filo d’Oro has supported deafblind people and people with multiple sensory disabilities for more than sixty years. It is present in 13 Italian regions; since June 2026, its network has included Nuoro in Sardinia. Its stated goal is to reach every region.
A local centre means seeking answers closer to everyday life. President Rossano Bartoli emphasises people’s and families’ need to feel welcomed and accompanied. The campaign aims to strengthen this presence and reach those still waiting for the support they need.
Neri Marcorè, and an invitation shared through sport
Neri Marcorè stars in the campaign spot; longstanding ambassador Renzo Arbore also supports the foundation. In the preceding days, Serie A football helped spread the message. That visibility matters when it helps us discover who is behind the appeal and the work it makes possible.
How can we take part?
The campaign gives 45514 for text messages and landline donations, and unastoriadimani.it for online giving. Before donating, check current conditions, amounts and participating operators on the foundation’s official website. Follow its official links to choose the option that suits you.
Sharing the initiative can help too: guide readers towards a reliable source and explain the importance of communication and independence. There is more to discover than a single day on the calendar.
A thought from CHIARA!
How often do we offer a hand without thinking about the words? This story invites us to give them weight again. As Christians, drawing close also means learning to listen differently, respecting another person’s pace and way of communicating. Love begins when we stop rushing to understand everything and choose to be present.
