RESCUE STORIES!

A CAPSIZED BOAT, THREE PEOPLE BROUGHT ASHORE!

Florida Keys, 10 January 2026. A dawn alarm and Coast Guard response, documented in photographs of the rescue.

Rescue beside a capsized boat off Marathon, Florida Keys

The call arrives at 5.49am: a boat is taking on water, and the caller says there are no life jackets aboard. Key West Coast Guard receives the alert through 911 and dispatches a crew from Marathon. At 6.41am rescuers recover all three people.

Holding on to the hull

The boat, just over six metres long, capsizes about twelve miles north of Marathon. A US Coast Guard photograph shows the overturned hull, people awaiting rescue and a rescuer in the foreground.

Fifty-two minutes pass between alert and rescue; we do not know their total time in the water. We do know the outcome: all three return to Marathon’s base stable and uninjured.

A team rescue

Crew member Brian Deighton credits teamwork between the rescue boat and command centre. He stresses wearing life jackets, or keeping them readily accessible, whenever aboard.

Someone receives the alert, someone coordinates and someone reaches the scene. Everyone’s work brings three people ashore.

We do not know what those rescued thought or said. The documented facts already tell a story worth remembering.
