CHANGE YOUR TIGHTS, WAKE UP YOUR OUTFIT!
Chocolate brown, burgundy and lace put tights at the centre of the outfit. Three ideas for enjoying the dresses and skirts already waiting in your wardrobe.

You open the wardrobe, spot that familiar dress and think: this again? Give it a moment before setting it aside. Sometimes the change is in the smallest drawer, the one holding your tights. A warm colour beneath a grey skirt, a glimpse of pattern or a more opaque black can shift the mood of something familiar. It is an easy experiment to try before hunting for another major purchase.
A pair of tights does not have to turn us into somebody else. It can simply work better for the day, connect colours or add the detail that makes getting dressed more enjoyable. The point is to play with combinations without adding another set of duties to the wardrobe.
Which tights shall we try?
Today let’s try three routes: chocolate brown, burgundy and lace. We know black already, but a different shade might bring back that skirt we have not worn in a while. Start with the skirt and choose the tights afterwards.
Like lace? Calzedonia’s black floral lace tights cost €25.95 on the Italian website as of 2 November 2026. Check your size and the current price before buying.
Chocolate with beige and denim
To begin with brown, imagine a denim skirt, beige knit and dark shoes. The tights create a connection between the lighter and darker elements. You can choose a shade close to the shoes or allow a small contrast. Both are worth trying if you like the result.
Look at the combination beside a window. Two browns that appear identical under a lamp can have different undertones in daylight. That does not automatically need correcting. If the difference feels intentional and appeals to you, keep it. If it distracts you, simplifying the rest of the outfit may help.
If skirts are not part of your wardrobe, use the same approach beneath trousers that show the ankle. There is less colour on display, but the principle remains: a small detail can make a very simple combination feel more personal.
Burgundy with grey
Start the second experiment with a grey dress, or with a skirt and top in the same colour family. Add burgundy tights and see what happens. A deeper shade makes a quieter entrance; a brighter one asks for more attention. Choose the amount of contrast you actually enjoy.
For the first attempt, keep other elements familiar. A simple bag and your usual shoes help you assess the colour within the whole outfit before adding more echoes. If you later want to repeat it in an accessory, do so because you enjoy that connection. Everything does not need to match.
Red can follow a similar route. Try it on an informal day when you feel like experimenting. An outfit does not need to pass an examination: you only need to discover whether it represents you and feels natural to wear.
Let lace have its moment
A plain dress, comfortable jacket and lace tights make room for the pattern without requiring more focal points. There is no compulsory skirt length. Choose what feels good and check how much of the design is visible.
Take a full-length photograph to assess the effect. Looking only at your legs in the mirror can make a texture seem busier than it does in the complete outfit. Put on your coat as well: the way the combination looks while coming and going is part of the decision.
If you already love prints and accessories, of course you can mix them. Beginning with a simple base is a way to understand what you want to emphasise, rather than a rule banning everything else.
Comfort before the photograph
Before buying, check the individual brand’s size guide, fabric composition and care instructions. A beautiful colour is only one part of the choice. Think about which shoes you will wear and whether you want a sheer appearance or greater coverage. A photograph alone cannot tell you how the fabric will feel.
When trying the tights on, move around. Sit, stand and walk across the room. Is the waistband comfortable? Is there room at the toes? Do you keep having to adjust something? Those answers matter as much as the mirror image.
Finally, check the outfit against a real day in your calendar. A combination you enjoy walking in deserves more consideration than one you only like while standing still. Save the successful version as a quick reference for a morning when choosing clothes feels harder.
Most of this new outfit may already be at home: a forgotten skirt, a favourite knit and comfortable shoes. Before declaring that there is nothing to wear, allow yourself this small experiment. Sometimes the wardrobe needs to be seen through a different colour.
