Carmen Di Pietro, prayer between mother and children: a gift called Lourdes
Alessandro asks for a trip to Lourdes together. Carmelina accompanies her to Medjugorje. In Carmen’s accounts, faith enters family life through questions, fear and gratitude.

What do you ask for on your eighteenth birthday? Carmen Di Pietro said she perhaps expected a car. Her son Alessandro surprised her: he wanted a trip to Lourdes with her.
We begin with that gift, the wish to travel with his mother to a place of prayer. Told in 2019, it opens a window onto a less familiar part of Carmen’s life: faith shared at home.
‘Mum, let’s go together’
Carmen was already talking about Alessandro’s wish in December 2019. Carmen described him praying at night and seeking quiet to speak to God. She presented it as his own spiritual journey, within a Christian upbringing.
That journey is still a wish to fulfil. But the idea already holds something lovely: a place to go, someone beside you and time to share. Have you ever felt a journey begin long before you set off?
Discovering what is becoming important to a child can surprise a mother. Making room includes listening to questions you did not expect.
A mother, grandmother and child in Medjugorje
Carmen’s official website documents another episode on 22 May 2017: a pilgrimage with her mother Emma and daughter Carmelina. Three generations together in a place she described feeling drawn towards.
She recalled the fear surrounding her daughter’s premature birth and long stay in an incubator, and turning to prayer. She later recognised her daughter’s wish for that journey. The trip was described as thanksgiving and entrusting themselves to Mary.
When praying means finding words
Speaking publicly in June 2020, Carmen again discussed faith. She described praying during that difficult period and grieving an aunt. Alongside her familiar cheerful side, she spoke about reflection and prayer.
The account contains recognisable concerns: loved ones, fear of loss and entrusting to God what we cannot hold ourselves. Prayer can also gather gratitude for children and work, as Carmen recalled.

In Rai’s official November 2024 Belve preview, Carmen discusses prayer with her humorous television tone. This is a different setting from her pilgrimage accounts.
Tell charitable projects precisely
Publicly announced initiatives also include a 2016 calendar made with photographer Bruno Oliviero. Carmen’s website presents the initiative as a project to support children in poverty.
The project was announced with a charitable aim; the amount actually donated is not given. In Carmen’s story, faith and family ties keep returning: the people and names that matter in her choices.
The gift was being together
Let us return to Alessandro: the surprising request and the quiet he sought. And to Carmelina, who, Carmen said, expressed a wish to visit Medjugorje.
Some conversations between parents and children stay for years. A question reveals something new about someone beside you. Sometimes that question is: Mum, will you come with me?
