WOW LASHES! DOES THE BRUSH REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Curves, tips and formulas: four mascaras to compare, including how you remove them at night.

The tube promises amazing volume. Meanwhile, you are trying to reach three corner lashes without marking your eyelid. Before chasing the most dramatic effect, look at the applicator: which movement feels easiest?

Look at the brush first

Applicators often matter. Maybelline’s Lash Sensational has a curved, two-sided brush: one side distributes product from roots to tips, while the other fans the lashes out. Rotate your wrist to switch sides.

The same range’s Sky High combines a flexible brush with fibres and bamboo extract for length. Applicator and formula are different things; examine both.

Black or brown?

Black is the classic, while brown gives a softer daytime look. Lancôme’s Lash Idôle Brown has a densely bristled curved brush and gel texture. Buying online? Check that you selected the brown version: range photographs can mislead.

Help for the corners

Small lashes in the corners and under the eye are harder to reach. Conical applicators with rounded tips, such as Lash Sensational Sky Tubes, are designed for them. Its tubing formula comes off with warm water without rubbing.

Think about the evening too: look at the brush, formula and removal instructions together. Love the look but hate the battle to remove it? Look for an option that fits your routine better.

Your mascara is yours alone

The FDA advises against sharing eye makeup or diluting mascara with water or saliva. Keep hands and tools clean; avoid makeup during infections or inflammation and discard products used when the infection began. Stop using irritating cosmetics and consult a doctor if discomfort persists.

Your four comparison points: shape, colour, formula and removal. More useful than a giant promise on a tube!
