Guccini: Bologna becomes a great choir on 1 November
The 1 November singalong and Bologna’s entire tribute to Francesco Guccini, which ended on 2 November, are now past events. This page remains as an archive of the announced programme and does not claim undocumented outcomes.

There are songs we immediately associate with someone: a friend who always played them in the car, a father who sang them, an evening spent talking late into the night. We hear them again and that person seems close once more.
That feeling can be the beginning of an encounter with Francesco Guccini. Bologna is preparing to give it room to fill a square.
The date of Sunday 1 November 2026 has passed. The official programme announced “Cantata per un amico – Bologna canta Guccini” from 3 to 6 pm in Piazza Maggiore, free and without a stage separating musicians from the public. This page remains as an archive of the announced event; it does not claim attendance or outcomes without an official report.
29 October–2 November: the other events
The singalong was part of “S’io avessi previsto tutto questo”, Bologna’s tribute running from 29 October to 2 November. The final announced event was the guided listening session In ascolto del Maestro on 2 November at 5.30 pm in Salaborsa’s Sala della Musica. The whole programme has now ended and remains here as an archive.
A square with room for everyone
That is the lovely part: you do not need to be a musician. You can know every verse or let the voices around you guide you.
Singing together is both simple and powerful. You have to listen, find the rhythm and make room. For a few minutes your phone can stay in your pocket, and the person beside you becomes someone to share a memory with.
The Bologna gathering offers that opportunity to people who discovered Guccini through family records and those just starting to listen.
Where to start if you only know his name?
His discography can seem like an enormous world. Try entering it without the pressure to understand everything at once: choose one song and give it a few minutes.
Il vecchio e il bambino offers a first encounter with the way he brings generations into conversation. Auschwitz invites reflection on memory and responsibility. La locomotiva draws us into a forceful story of ideals, tensions and contradictions.
These are three possible starting points. Then everyone finds their own: a story, an image, a question that keeps returning.
Guccini often calls for patient listening. His songs take the time they need to tell us about a person, a place or a thought. Hearing them today can be a small exercise in attention.
Reggio Emilia’s exhibition: past dates
“Francesco Guccini. Canterò soltanto il tempo” at Spazio Gerra had an announced closing date of Sunday 18 October 2026. Its final-weekend visits are now past appointments.
The closing programme listed free admission from 10 am–1 pm and 3–8 pm, plus a screening of Tra la via Emilia e Pavana on 18 October at 9 pm. These details remain as an archive of the announced events.
Songs passed from one person to another
An exhibition preserves objects, images and testimonies. A square brings voices together. They are two different ways of caring for something that has mattered in people’s lives.
Perhaps we can begin at home with a tiny gesture: send someone a song with a sentence of our own. “You always listened to this.” “This makes me think of you.” “I’d like you to hear this.”
A song continues its journey this way too: someone presses play and someone else feels remembered.
Which Guccini song connects you to a person or a moment in your life?
