FIORELLO AND AMADEUS: WHEN FRIENDSHIP GOES LIVE!
A video call on La Pennicanza, jokes about Sanremo and the promise of a surprise. Fiorello and Amadeus catch up with the kind of familiarity that makes viewers at home smile, too.

Some friends need no introduction when they call. They are already part of the conversation. On La Pennicanza on 27 October, Amadeus arrives with a sentence that could come straight from our living room: ‘I’m at home watching you!’ On the other end are Fiorello and Fabrizio Biggio. A phone call immediately becomes a chance to tease one another.
The programme is on Rai Radio2, and the clip is available on RaiPlay. At its heart are two people audiences know very well together, yet who still make us curious when they meet without a grand ceremony. One question is enough to send the conversation off on its own path.
Sanremo always comes back, even on the phone
Fiorello brings up the prospect of a long life and, naturally, the Festivals Amadeus could still host. His friend turns the joke back on him: how many could Fiorello do? It is playful banter, with no announcement of a new Sanremo together. The joke works precisely because that stage belongs to their shared public history.
The conversation turns to Amici and Maria De Filippi. Amadeus says he is committed to the programme until the end of May, and Fiorello asks him to pass on his greetings to Maria. Then Amadeus promises his friend a visit, without revealing when. That is part of the fun of a surprise!
That word: ‘brotherly’
To understand this familiarity, we can return to a specific record. During Sanremo in February 2020, Amadeus described his relationship with Fiorello as a ‘brotherly, selfless friendship’. The video remains in the RaiPlay archive. The subject was the Festival, but the description shifted attention from work to their personal bond.
In that edition’s final, the two also recalled their beginnings at Radio Deejay and Claudio Cecchetto. Before the Ariston theatre came radio: a shared part of their journey that helps explain their connection. Audiences came to know the pair through huge evenings; behind them, in their accounts, are the years when those evenings were still far away.
That detail makes the story relatable even to someone who has never entered a television studio. A friend who knew you from the start remembers the attempts, the mistakes and the versions of you that preceded a success. For a moment, they can take you back to when a project was just an idea spoken aloud. Perhaps recognising that is part of the pleasure of watching these two together.
The surprise appearances audiences remember
At Sanremo in 2022, Fiorello built a routine around his own return to the Festival: he joked about the friendship that had brought him back onto the stage alongside Amadeus. Their relationship itself became material for the show, familiar enough for audiences to recognise. The laughter drew on something viewers had already watched grow.
In February 2024, during Amadeus’s live link with Domenica In, another surprise appearance followed: Fiorello dressed as Batman, pursued by Biggio as Wonder Woman. The Rai archive preserves that scene, too. The programme, connection and costume change; the mechanism remains that of a friend stepping into a conversation and turning it upside down.
These moments explain more than a long description of rapport could. They also reveal a craft: comic timing, listening and picking up on a response. Personal familiarity becomes entertainment through the work of people who know how to use it in front of an audience.
The video: five minutes to catch up with them
The video-call clip from 27 October 2026 lasts about five minutes. Open it on RaiPlay using the following link.

And the return to Rai1?
In the same episode, Fiorello spoke again about a future appearance on Rai1. He deliberately left the details open: he gave no new programme, date or precise slot for the appearance he was discussing. Instead, he played on the unpredictability of his television movements.
For now, the concrete moment to revisit is the conversation with Amadeus. That is where this story finds its most enjoyable point: someone follows a friend’s work, gets in touch and enters their afternoon. Professional success forms the backdrop to a gesture we recognise in our own days.
Sending a message after something has gone well. Remembering an important date. Listening to an episode, reading a project, asking how it went. These are small, precise ways of participating in someone’s life. They cost attention, which is often exactly what we need.
After smiling along with Fiorello and Amadeus, perhaps someone will come to mind whom you could message. Maybe a friend you have not spoken to for a while, but whose steps you still follow. Begin with something true: I saw what you did, and it made me happy. If the rest of the conversation comes, it will find its way.
Clarification, 2 November 2026: it is Amadeus who promises the surprise visit. The video call can be opened using the RaiPlay link.
